A yield of 10,650 kg per ha.! Rice paddies in China's Xinjiang opens to yield monitoring
A public yield monitoring was conducted in the saline soil rice paddies in Shihezi City in China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The saline soil rice, cultivated with drip irrigation technology under plastic film, achieved a theoretical yield of 710 kg per mu (10,650 kg per hectare), based on a random drawing of a paddy. The test field is nearly 10 hectares in size. The salinity of the soil was as high as around 3.2 percent, with a pH value of over eight, indicating a high degree of salinity. The saline land has long been deemed unsuitable for agricultural production. However, experts say the saline soil rice can improve soil and lower salinity, turning saline soil into fertile farmland.
